3-Year Developmental Checklist
The 3-Year Developmental Checklist follows the development of children aged 36–48 months across three areas: motor development, social and emotional development, and self-care skills. It is completed by a teacher or parent who knows the child and is meant to identify early which areas need developmental support.

Who is it for?
Used for the developmental monitoring of children aged 36–48 months; common in preschool assessments and parent interviews. The items themselves are not published on this page.
How is the 3-Year Developmental Checklist scored and interpreted?
Each item is marked 0, 1 or 2; the total runs from 0 to 82. The level ranges rest on a proportional division of the total score rather than a normative study and should be read as in-scale monitoring.
| Score range | Level | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0–37 | Needs support | Support is needed across a large share of the age-level skills. |
| 38–62 | Developing | Skills are shown partly independently and partly with support. |
| 63–82 | Age-appropriate | Skills are largely demonstrated independently. |

+
It covers three areas — motor development, social-emotional development and self-care skills — across a total of 41 items.
How long does it take to complete?
+
About 16 minutes for an observer who knows the child. The child is asked nothing; the observer marks what they have seen.
Are the level ranges norms?
+
No. They are proportionally derived monitoring ranges, not a norm table produced by a standardization study.
Does the result provide a diagnosis?
+
No. This is a screening/assessment tool; it does not provide a clinical diagnosis on its own. Results should be interpreted only by a licensed mental-health professional as part of a clinical evaluation.
